Must-Have DVD Alert: Home Movies 10th Anniversary Edition

I’m a big fan of the animated series, “Home Movies”, so it delights me to no end that they released a special 10th anniversary dvd box set.

Home Movies box set

This dvd set is all kinds of awesome! It comes with a “Home Movies” clapboard like Brendan, Jason, and Melissa use on the show,  a canvas bag AND a 52 track cd that contains all the original songs from the show. And of course, it includes all four seasons’ original dvd sets with the all the original bonus features and commentary. The “Home Movies” box set costs between $90-129.99, so this may have to wait for christmas time or whenever I get an awesome dvd discount coupon in my inbox.

TV DVD Pick of the Week: The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Warner Bros. is releasing a snazzy complete series box set tomorrow for “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” The whopping 41 dvds cover all four seasons of this sixties spy television show!

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - The Complete Series

Looks like an identical similar set was released in November 2007 by Time Life. So basically, WB just made the box set available to sell in retail stores with a slightly lower price! Read a more comprehensive list of TV on DVD releases for 10/21/08 on TV Squad.

Heroes recruits Seth Green

Pop Candy reports that Seth Green (Oz in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) will have a guest stint on the third season of “Heroes”!

Seth Green

I actually love Seth Green* (even tho “Robot Chicken” is very hit or miss!), especially his guest appearances on television shows. He was hilarious on “Entourage” as the wannabe it guy who tries to out-cool Vince. He even was a breath of fresh air on “Grey’s Anatomy” this past season, even tho they totally killed his character off! Guess that’s the chance you take when you take a guest role on a hospital drama. Hopefully, Seth Green’s addition will be lengthy, which can only help liven things up on the newly subtitled season, “Heroes: Villains”.

Not caught up? Check out G4 TV for re-runs or buy the extras filled “Heroes” season two dvd on August 26th.

*Airborne and Can’t Hardly Wait gave him a pass from me for life!

Shirley Manson acting debut

Shirley Manson, lead singer of the band Garbage, joins the cast of “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”.

Shirley Manson

From SciFi Wire:
“Manson turns up as Catherine Weaver, the chief executive of Cyberdine Systems, which all Terminator fans know develops the computers that eventually become Skynet. “She’s the CEO of a corporation that develops certain technologies,” Manson said. “And she’s very self-empowered, successful, self-assured, singular. So it’s a cool character to play.” (She added that producers will let her keep her Scottish brogue.)”

Pop culture confession: I own all four Garbage albums ( I have this strange loyalty to the band after seeing them open up for Smashing Pumpkins in ‘97). Thus, maybe that makes me a little biased and overly positive about this casting news. Nevertheless, watching Shirley Manson make her television debut has finally given me a reason to be pumped for the second season of “Terminator”.

Shirley Manson definitely has a strong stage presence, so it’s probably not that big of a leap for her to become an actress. I’m just surprised that Fox being so cool with it, especially since she has no acting training per se. It’s sorta risky to have a newbie play such a pivotal character as Catherine Weaver in the series. What are they gonna do? fire

“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” returns September 8th at 8/7c. Buy the first season of “Terminator” dvd on August 19th.

All Put Together: Lost season 4 flash forwards

At Comic-Con this weekend, the producers of “Lost” revealed some exciting news and spoilers to the crowd of Hall H. They even answered a few of the fans’ burning questions. To kick things off, they showed a “video [which] consisted of Lindelof and Cuse talking about how, in these new DVDs, they will present all of the flash-forwards as an extra and in the correct time sequence.”

\"Lost\" - Jack and Ben flashforward

Say what now? All those crazy flashforwards will be edited together for my viewing pleasure? That’s definitely an extra feature that could prove useful! “Lost” is such a complicated show, I mean most viewers have to watch each episode twice to know what the heck is going on! This flash-forward compilation feature could finally resolve all of those dangling clues that are mixed up in my head.

The only catch is the 5-disc box set doesn’t come out until December 9th! I guess in the meantime, I’ll have to watch the other three seasons to pass the time.

‘30 Rock’ Season 2: The Greatest Hits

“30 Rock” follows the exploits of Liz Lemon, comedy writer and producer of the fictional sketch show “The Girly Show with Tracy Jordan”. It’s an imaginative black comedy that parodies the behind the scenes antics that occur when trying to bring together coporate interest (GE) and creative expression.

The MILF Island episode:

I must own that episode on dvd ASAP! My other favorite from this season is “Subway Hero”. It features the return of Liz’s politically incorrect beeper salesman ex boyfriend, Dennis (Dean Winters) .

According to TVshowsonDVD.com, “30 Rock” season two could be out as early as September!
